Commissioning works

ICS (АСУ ТП) commissioning: installation inspection, I&C instrument configuration, controller program debugging, integrated testing and bringing the system to operating mode. Astana, Kazakhstan.

Commissioning works are the final and most critical stage of building an automation system. It is precisely during commissioning that the design and the installed equipment turn into a working system. Atlas Scada performs commissioning of industrial control systems (ICS), instrumentation & control (I&C) and engineering systems both on our own projects and on systems installed by other contractors.

Installation errors, incorrect instrument settings or a "raw" program reveal themselves precisely at start-up. Our task is to identify and eliminate them before handing the facility over to operation, so that the system runs stably and safely rather than being "fine-tuned" during operation.

What commissioning works include

  • Inspection of the installation, verification of wiring correctness and circuit continuity checks.
  • Configuration and calibration of I&C instruments (sensors, transducers).
  • Loading, debugging and verification of the controller (PLC) program.
  • Verification of control algorithms, protections and emergency interlocks.
  • Setting up data exchange with SCADA and dispatching.
  • Integrated testing and bringing the system to operating mode.

Commissioning stages

  • Site survey and verification that the installation matches the design.
  • Individual testing of instruments, circuits and separate mechanisms.
  • Tuning of algorithms and equipment operating modes under real load.
  • Integrated testing of the system as a whole.
  • Handover of the system to the customer with documentation issued.

Commissioning of third-party installation

We perform commissioning of systems assembled and installed by other contractors. Before starting work we carry out a survey and verify compliance with the design — this allows us to honestly assess the system's condition and the real scope of commissioning, rather than taking it on blindly.

Documents delivered upon completion of commissioning

Upon completion of the works we issue as-built and operational documentation: inspection and test reports, setpoint and settings schedules, updated "as-built" diagrams (where required) and instructions for personnel. This simplifies subsequent maintenance and handover of the facility.

Staff training

Based on the commissioning results we conduct a briefing for the operating personnel: how to work with the system, respond to alarms and perform basic maintenance. We hand over the documentation and, if needed, stay in touch to provide support.

Why Atlas Scada

  • Commissioning is carried out by engineers who themselves design, assemble and program the systems — they understand the facility as a whole, not just "their own part".
  • We connect the facility to the Atlas dispatching server for 24/7 remote monitoring already at the start-up stage.
  • Commissioning experience at boiler houses, heat substations, pumping stations, ventilation and fire automation. On a number of facilities integrated commissioning took from 3 to 18 days.

The timeframe and cost of commissioning depend on the scale and condition of the facility. Describe the system — after a survey we will state the scope of work and the timeframe.
